This course will explore the processing of musical sounds in mind and brain with special emphasis on emotional responses to music and their role in aesthetic experience. Other areas of study will include music and language, how the brain is changed by music, music and memory, and therapeutic uses of music. With a Ph. D. in physiological psychology and a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, Dwight Krehbiel has taught at Bethel College (North Newton, Kan.) since 1978, and in a part-time capacity since 2019. Several sabbaticals have taken him to the INRA (agricultural research institute) near Nouzilly, France. Since 2000, he has pursued teaching and research interests in the neuroscience and psychology of music together with college and high school students.
