For Susan Bartel, painting is a way to explore the natural world’s wonders, finding awe in the familiar. Her passion for botanical watercolor painting captures the luminous beauty of plants through a limited palette of three primary colors, allowing them to mix and dance on the paper. Though Susan’s love for art began early, her formal training came later, after her children were in school. She earned an A.A. in Commercial Art and worked as a freelance illustrator before transitioning to a library career. Now retired, Susan paints for her own enjoyment, with her work displayed at The Carriage Factory Art Gallery in Newton and online at susanbartelart.com. A Kansan at heart, Susan has lived in various places, including Nebraska, Illinois, the DRC, Canada, and Colorado. She now resides with her husband in North Newton, Kansas.
