PRAIRIE LANDSCAPING 101

Incorporating elements of the prairie into your landscape is a life-giving journey. You and your landscape will benefit from and be inspired by the experience of getting in touch with the natural and cultural history of Kansas. In this class, you will learn about the rich palette of native plants at your disposal, observe in the field the diversity of wildlife that these plants can attract both in small pocket gardens and seeded restoration plots, design your own pocket garden or prairie meadow, and learn the best management practices that will afford your design the greatest chance of success. Brad Guhr holds a master’s degree in ecological restoration from the Department of Landscape Architecture at University of Wisconsin - Madison. He has been the prairie restoration/education coordinator at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains, which operates under the auspices of Hesston College, since 2004.
